Advertising in WA

Posted: 9:00 am on 8th July 2014

The West Australian Auditor-General’s office has just released a report about Government Funded Advertising. Among the fun facts to emerge was the news that our western cousins spent “at least $45 million” of taxpayer money on media places for government advertising campaigns in just two years. However, that doesn’t cover the cost of developing the campaigns. The report estimates these development costs at about 30% of the final figure, which means the total cost to…

Oops again

Posted: 9:00 am on 30th April 2014

Yes, yes, we did promise this would be the last update on the AEC’s WA Senate mistake. But WasteWatch just can’t let sleeping dogs lie. Or lying dogs sleep. Or something. Anyway, we’re very sorry for lying to you. We’ve had to write another post because the cost to the taxpayer has simply soared since our last one. For instance, there’s been a $276,924 hit to the Australian taxpayer for rental of…

Oops

Posted: 10:46 am on 10th March 2014

This will be the last update on the AEC’s WA Senate mistake, WasteWatch promises! At first, WasteWatch thought the cost to the taxpayer of that little error was just over half-a-million dollars. This includes: —  nearly $160,000 for the preparation and…

Sure. $16,500 of taxpayer money to send some Labrador puppies on the trip of a lifetime? Why not. But sometimes we must scratch our heads. See, the Maylands Police Complex in Western Australia has been having some work done. In particular, the dog kennels…

AEC mistake #2

Posted: 12:18 pm on 19th February 2014

Remember when WasteWatch brought to your attention the half-a-million-dollar price-tag for the Australian Electoral Commission’s WA Senate mistake? It turns out that price-tag wasn’t quite correct. Mea culpa. It’s higher. The AEC has recently signed two more contracts (here and here) for market research for a “possible WA Senate election.” These two contracts add another $209,000 to the overall cost of the AEC’s error. Given that the recent by-election in…

Artistic flowering in Western Australia

Posted: 11:11 am on 13th November 2013

Last month, WasteWatch gave you a sneak preview of our capital’s art scene, and the ways it was managing to spend your money. This month, it’s Western Australia’s turn. In February, the Western Australian Department of Culture and the Arts released a new list of successful applicants for funding from the Arts Development Panel. It’s got some absolute crackers on there. A personal favourite is the $13,493 to one lucky…
